The
Flock
The
Roxburgh flock is of high health status. All of our Dorpers are
Maedi Visna accredited with the Scottish Agricultural College and
free of enzootic abortion. All pedigree stock has been scrapie typed.
Our sheep are all on the heptavac 7 in 1 programme and are vaccinated
annually for footrot.
The
Roxburgh ewe stock is mainly New Zealand genetics imported as embryos
from select Dorper studs. The ewes are selected for breed type with
accurate recording of lambing ability and offspring vigour at birth.
This information will be used to aid our selection of replacement
females. All Dorper lambs are weighed at 8 and 32 weeks old to monitor
the ewes milking ability and growth rates of the offspring.
Our
main flock sire at present is the German bred ram ‘HEINZ’. He is
selected for his good conformation, fleece shedding ability and
his exceptionally rare ARR/ARR (type 1) scrapie resistance. His
first crop of lambs was born easily and with exceptional vigour.
